-Reading an Image-

This photograph is an example of depth of field because the stacked rocks are the main thing in focus, along with the gravel like rocks beneath them. The smaller rocks are at the same depth in the image as the stacked larger rocks, except for the ones closer to the water. Another reason why this image is an example of depth of field is because the entire back round is blurred out and were only focusing on the larger, closer up objects such as the stacked rocks and the gravel beneath them. The shadows are very intense but calming, most of the light in this image is the reflection on the rock, the ocean or lakes shine, and the setting sun. The rocks are also very defined and are carrying a thick outline. All the colors in this photo that are in focus are dark colors while the back round is more colorful, due to the shine from the setting sun. All the rocks are very shiny and if this image was taken at night it would give a whole different feeling. The stacked rocks are the main thing in focus and have a thick defining outline, therefore instantly drawing your eyes toward them. I can see why the photographer chose to blur out the background because if he didn't, then the sun would have been way more distracting and would pull in all focus to the back round off of the main subject which is the rocks. This image to me feels really nice, and calming, and just reminds me of zen, and peace. Because usually thats what those rock sculptures represent: Peace and structure in life. That might have been what the photographer was going for as well. Or maybe they were just looking for a nice calming image. Also the way that the rocks are stacked are very peaceful and balanced because all the way up the get smaller and smaller but they also all tilt to the side until the final small rock which is tilting to the left, which I think works very well and applies a more satisfying structured feeling to the image. One thing that I would change about this image if I could would be to make the horizon line a little bit lower and to not have it tilted. If you look hard enough you can tell that the horizon line tilts down to the left and kind of messes up the angles in this photograph. So that means that the whole rock stack is literally tilting to the right and might fall over if a gust of wind comes by. I wonder why the photographer or whoever built the rock pile chose to make it tilted over.

I analyzed this Arby's sauce ad on what different types of advertising it was using to pull in consumers, to purchase the product.
This is another ad I did of a Pringles ad. I did this one because I have all my work done for this class so maybe this will be extra credit.
